Card-Based System

Using a card-based system, the card is used as the unique identifier (i.e., the mechanism for identifying the user and accessing their records from the back-end database - Infinity. Everyone carries their own unique card, which identifies them as an individual and gives them access to the facilities that they are entitled to.

Cards are a flexible and non intrusive identifier and all personal and account balance information (e.g. for cashless catering) is held on the database not on the card, ensuring that students' / staff money and details are safe even if the card is lost. Cards can also be used for identification or proof of age purpose.

The main disadvantage of a card-based system, is that cards can be forgotten, misplaced or stolen. Although this does not pose a security risk (as no data is held on the card itself) the issue of replacement cards is an administrative burden.

Card design is bespoke to meet your specific needs. You may select any colours, logos and images to use. Often the image of the cardholder and school logo form part of the design. Enrolment number is also often included to simplify administration and identification. Integration with third party applications - e.g. local transport companies and other community facilities (public libraries, leisure centres etc) may also be an option.
